America's CREDIT UNIONS TURN 100

America's Credit Unions honor their centennial here in the United States

Our credit union may not be 100 years old - yet - but we join credit unions around the country in celebrating a wonderful milestone; formation of the nation's first credit union.  The credit union movement began in New England 100 years ago.  Those credit unions began as a social movement designed to help people live better lives through access to essential financial services.

In 100 years of growth credit unions have continually improved service to members.  And today, when so many other financial institutions are struggling in a weakened economy, credit unions are strong because they stay true to their original purpose - people helping people.

No matter how old our credit union is, you and all members are the beneficiaries of 100 years of credit union innovation and service to members.

We'll celebrate this major achievement and continue to look for ways to help members make the most of their money.

 Attention!

For your Information
Credit Unions are Safe and Sound...
Recent weeks have seen numerous reports about the funding
difficulties of various financial institutions resulting from the
subprime mortgage crisis.   In this environment, it's no surprise that
consumers are unsure about lending and cautious about their money.

Fortunately, credit unions have strong answers to members'
safety questions.  According to CUNA (Credit Union National Association):
Credit unions as a whole are healthy,
with strong balance sheets.

Savings in every federally insured credit union are backed by the
National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), a fund
maintained by the U.S. Treasury.  The NCUSIF is administered by the
National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the federal
government, which insures your deposits up to at least $250,000.00
Federal insurance protects your money at your credit union
in share savings, share draft/checking, money market, share certificate,
trust fund, and retirement accounts.

NCUSIF coverage is to credit unions as the FDIC coverage is to banks.
The "full faith and credit" of the U.S. Treasury backs both funds.
